Totally did not see this coming! well said Neil, well said.

How can you ever think you can run away from being religious on one of the most religious seasons of the year?

6 year old with a coach bag

last week, on the TTC, I saw a 6 year old girl with a tiny coach bag... (not tiny for her size) and no... it wasn't her mother's/sister's... etc

seriously?? why do kids need Coach purses?? shouldn't they be after backpacks or cartoon/anime... bags? I find that quite crazy... and slightly annoying.

what is happening???

Musical for the deaf

How do people who are deaf watch musicals? with sign language

I have recently learned about this organization in Hong Kong  called "Hong Kong Sign Language Musical Theatre (香港手語歌舞劇團) I think it is super meaningful for them to do this. Not only can people who are deaf perform, but those who are deaf can now enjoy musicals.

You can go to the Hong Kong Sign Language Musical Theatre (香港手語歌舞劇團) to learn more

check out this sign language music video!

I will write another post (about my thoughts) about this later ( I think I have a lot to say on this topic... but not much time to write them all out... yet :'(

Tori Kelly - Dear No One

I came across this song a few days ago... I would like to share this song with you... the lyrics really speaks my thoughts now... sometimes it may be hard... but I will wait

"Dear No One"

I like being independent
Not so much of an investment
No one to tell me what to do
I like being by myself
Don’t gotta entertain anybody else
No one to answer to

But sometimes, I just want somebody to hold
Someone to give me their jacket when its cold
Got that young love even when we’re old
Yeah sometimes, I want someone to grab my hand
Pick me up, pull me close, be my man
I will love you till the end

So if you’re out there I swear to be good to you
But I’m done lookin’, for my future someone
Cause when the time is right
You’ll be here, but for now
Dear no one, this is your love song

I don’t really like big crowds
I tend to shut people out
I like my space, yeah
But I’d love to have a soul mate
God will give him to me someday
& I know it’ll be worth the wait

So if you’re out there I swear to be good to you
But I’m done lookin’, for my future someone
Cause when the time is right
You’ll be here, but for now
Dear no one, this is your love song

But sometimes, I just want somebody to hold
Someone to give me their jacket when its cold
Got that young love even when we’re old
Yeah sometimes, I want someone to grab my hand
Pick me up, pull me close, be my man
I will love you till the end

So if you’re out there I swear to be good to you
But I’m done lookin’, for my future someone
Cause when the time is right
You’ll be here, but for now
Dear no one, this is your love song

Out of the Ordinary

one of my favourite scenes on the subway is watching kids get really excited when we travel between Castle Frank and Broadview station. I just love watching the looks on their face when they see Don Valley Parkway :)... I really love seeing how excited they get and how they "oooh" and  "wooooooowww". Today I did and it totally made my day <3

friend: Steph, you should really go to Taiwan, lots of good food there! :D
me: I want to, but how do I communicate with them?
friend: oh, you'll be fine!
me: do they speak English there? -_____-
friend: no
me: I'm sure they don't speak Cantonese though
friend: yeah, they don't
me: how do I communicate with them?
friend: ... erm... just speak Cantonese... it is close enough, I think Cantonese is similar to Taiwanese
me: :O...
(friend: Cantonese is like Taiwanese with a really weird accent)

At a friend's house party, I wanted to listen to a song.... here's the conversation:

Steph: Let's listen to the "Ugly" song
friend: there's a song that's ugly?
Steph: no, the name of the song is "Ugly" (by 加藤ミリヤ)

anywayz... I wanted to listen to this song... it's quite good! :)

mosquito bite at below 3 degrees!?

seriously... if it wasn't worse enough to be constantly reminded by the temperature that we are approaching winter, I had to get a mosquito bite as well... mosquito bites are only worth it when you have wonderful beautiful warm weather (at least you aren't freezing... right?) I thought they were all "dead" by now... hasn't the weather "kindly" reminded them that winter's here... and they should be gone... somewhere...? Their season is OVER!

unfortunately, whoever the little sucker was (pun not intended), it refused to leave and decided to give me a mosquito bite... no need for pictures or proof... it looks like any ordinary mosquito bite... I'm just curious as to how it got under all those layers of clothing to bite me? DX I'm not tasty... leave me alone mosquito!!! :(

(p.s. -3 Celsius = 26.6 Fahrenheit!!)

Be proud to be a Night Owl!

Today, I came across this article, Night Owl Benefits.

All my life people have "blamed" me for poor sleep habits (which resulted in being a night owl). However, this article states otherwise, I think this article really answered a lot of questions.

Government fail...

sanitizers for feet please!

While I was trying a couple pairs of shoes earlier last month I thought, has anyone thought about creating sanitizers for feet?

I have never trusted those "socks", the ones they let/force you wear when you are trying on shoes, they are just too thin, bacteria could go through them.

I know there are "feet wipes" but wipes are just not as versatile as santizers. They aren't environmentally friendly either.

reasons I think feet sanitizers will work and are the better option:

  1. affordable (I don't see how they need to change much of the formula from the hands version)
  2. convenient (you just need a squirt and wash away, since it is alcohol base you don't need to rinse, and you probably only need to do this step once when trying on different shoes)
  3. environmentally friendly (compared to wipes and socks... think of how much waste we accumulate using those)
  4. hygienic (your hands won't get dirty during the process)
I hope shoe stores (and anywhere else shoes are sold) would consider "feet sanitizers" for their clients!

(p.s. please disregard any typos, grammar errors etc... I was rushing when I was writing this post >.<)
(btw, while writing this post, I wonder... am I spelling "sanitizer" wrong? apparently my browser keeps indicating it as a typo and suggests "sanitize r" and "sanitarian" to me... )

Company Golf Outing

hole #11
How shameful of me to be in the golf industry, yet it took me THIS long to finally learn to play golf. My coworkers were very patient, nice and supportive. I can finally say I know how to play golf! :)

Thank God it was such a bright nice sunny day. I finally understand why executives like to go golfing... it is really nice getting outside the office and seeing so much green and open spaces... the scenery really relaxes the eyes and your body. And yes, that's how the scenery looked like but more beautiful.

progressing at hole #13
I had no idea Golfing can be so tiring... the next day, I was literally sore all over, I could hardly move... my thighs, shoulders were so sore... when did I even use them during golf? I can't say I have fallen in love with golf, but certainly it was an experience worth remembering.

Last week I saw a girl on the TTC eating her breakfast as if she were trying to murder it. I can't unsee that scene anymore... I wonder what did her breakfast do to her that she had to eat it with such infuriation?

highlighting :D

I almost forgot just how much I love highlighting... love the sound, the colours and the feel... I'm obsessed. I still remember the moment I got my first highlighter when I was 8 years old. Once I was introduced to what "highlighting" was, the way my notes looked forever changed.

Today, I was given 2 highlighters, I literally went though all my notes to see where and what I can highlight... :P I missed my old highlighter friends! :D

I do have a pet peeve for certain highlighting bad habits:
  • I hate when the tip goes off track and my "perfect" line is messed up (you need to concentrate and have a very steady hand/arm)
  • I hate layering highlights and I hate over highlighting
  • I can't stand the look of a page if it is highlighted more than 50%
  • I hate when people use highlighters to colour (no matter what the colour is, I hate it)
  • I hate to use highlighters where the tip has already been overused and mushed up
  • I hate it when highlighters (especially yellow) gets old and they produce a non-highlighting yellow colour
  • I hate when a highlighter's color prevents the text from being visible
  • And finally, I hate when highlighters smudge the text under.

Speaking of highlighting, who shares my obsession? Or should I ask, who is as serious about highlighting as I am?

What's in your coat pocket?

It has been a very harsh week to remind us not only has school started but so has Autumn. That means it's time for my old coats and jackets to come out of the closet.

I don't know about you but I always find it so fascinating how there are so many things you can discover in your pockets: useful things like coins (Pennies, Nickels and quarters), paper clips, unused wet towels, pens, mittens and gloves etc, and no so useful things like old tissues (eww), old business cards, public transit tickets, receipts and candy wrappers.

It's actually kind of fun going though what you have, your coat pocket is sort of like a time capsule, when you find things in it, it reminds you of what you did last Autumn/Winter.... see what you find this Autumn/Winter ;)

Green Roses?

When I was a kid, I used to laugh at green flowers... how can green flowers be possible? wouldn't they look like their stems?

today, while walking to work, I saw these with my very own eyes, they are very beautiful. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take a picture, I was rushing to work and this image wasn't able to capture their beauty very well... when you see those green roses, you will know what I mean. For now, let me rant on with a vague description (in point form)

- very distinctively green
- silky/pastel colour
- very eye catching

Email Verification

So, I wanted to test out whether Email Verification Tools really work, I was doing random emails, when I decided to check my own email

Either Hotmail is really great in filtering out "junk" or that tool is a fake, my email showed up as : Bad

FAIL!!

I have checked this other email tool which seems quite promising: http://tools.email-checker.com/ do use this wisely though, there is a limit as to how many you check per day!

Celebrities without makeup...?

I was reading the news and came across this. Celebrities without make up. Make up can make you "prettier" and younger... BUT... for some celebrities shown here... I think they look better without or less... and some need it... seriously... what did they do to themselves?? (e.g. Hilary Duff)

I had to laugh when I saw this Barbie one though! Why does she have roots? I thought she was a natural blonde! *gasp :O

God's Timing

What's God's timing? Waiting on the Lord!!!!

This couldn't have come at a better time, God really listens to prayers!!!! While doing devotions today, I came across this note: http://bible.com/n/lLSF. I encourage if you are struggling with a major decision, please read this note, it answers a lot of questions.

Lately I have been struggling to waiting for God... I have constantly asked myself this question: 'How can I know for sure whether I'm hearing from God or just making things up?' I was going though a very hard time... on one side, I really wanted to trust God... but I couldn't trust based on what I "heard" during prayer time with God.

I was frustrated because I wasn't sure if I was making the right decision in choosing a path that seems impossible to wait for.

I think by coming across this note is definitely a first step, though I have many uncertainties ahead of me, I will learn to trust in Him.

I will learn to pray this prayer every day... Lord, I don't want to get so caught up in the heat of the moment that I make a decision I regret. Remind me to daily wait on You. It might be difficult, but receiving Your wisdom and knowledge is worth it.

Please pray with and for me!

While glancing over an article in a magazine, a friend and I encountered a picture of someone sitting in a car (you can only see the partial front-side of the car)

me: wow... 一睇就知、依駕車唔係BMW 就係Mercedes 啦
friend: 你一睇就知道... 證明你都係躁慣依啲貴車啦
me: .... O.O||

Translation:

me: wow... from the looks of that car, I say that car is either a BMW or a Mercedes
friend: wow... you can tell just by looking at that odd view? from hearing what you say, it just shows you drive or ride in a lot of those expensive cars~

Only in America...? XD

found this online, thought I would share it with you...

(lol, it took me a while to get #4, and I don't get #11 >.<)

1. Only in America......can a pizza get to your house faster than an ambulance.

2. Only in America......are there handicap parking places in front of a skating rink.

3. Only in America......do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

4. Only in America......do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a diet coke.

5. Only in America......do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters.

6. Only in America......do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.

7. Only in America......do we use answering machines to screen calls and then have call waiting so we won't miss a call from someone we didn't want to talk to in the first place.

8. Only in America......do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight.

9. Only in America......do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process so well: 'Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'

. 10. Only in America......do they have drive-up ATM's with Braille lettering.

11.Only in America.....Will you go to a restraunt in seaworld and ask for bandaids and get mayonnaise

now... what is Freedom of Speech?

I find it absolutely ridiculous …. and find a huge disappointment at the policies that the school systems in Canada is implementing.

What were they thinking…?
1. It is ok to freely talk about being LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transexual) It is even ok to admit you are one and be "proud" (OK, this part can be acceptable, after all, we all are here to learn about accepting one another)

2. It is alright to talk about Islamic beliefs, Buddhism beliefs… etc. In fact, the teachers encourage students to do so. (again, this is ok, since we are trying to share with everyone what we think, believe, etc)

3. Why can’t those wish to celebrate Christian holidays also? Why must Christmas be refered to as “Happy Holidays” and it is wrong to say Merry Christmas? (Please go and look up the meaning of this holiday,  it was created for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ... not made for your family gatherings and present giving holiday, please be respectful. If you intend to "steal" someone's holiday and celebration, at least be nice about it...)

I am reminded of a news story I heard about a year ago:
A Student is suspended for wearing a "Life is wasted without Jesus." themed t-shirt (isn't this kid, like others just trying to express his beliefs?)

two questions:

Why is everyone so against Christianity? Why do Christians not have "equal" treatment?

AND

What does freedom of speech mean? Why are there so many contradictions when it comes to this right?

Work and stress

The more I work, the more confused I am, I noticed I am getting stressed, my dreams are about my job... This is ridiculous! Why do I care for something so much? Who cares if they make the sale? I'm just an employee...

My panda/ raccoon eyes are extremely severe, I'm pretty sure, if I went to the zoo to visit those 2 pandas, they will welcome me thinking I'm their kind DX.

The weekend gave me enough rest, but the moment I stepped into the office my dark circles have instantly returned...

What should I do?! :(

Lessons learned this week

- Pride and confidence are two different things
- being polite and nice doesn't mean letting people step on you
- infatuation is not love
- obsession and being loyal are entirely different things

(will be elaborated later)

xanga - blogspot... I mean... to Wordpress

Hey... this is officially my first "xanga" post on Blogspot...

So... apparently... you cannot import xanga blogs to blogspot... what a shame...

after several attempts, 48 hours, I gave up.... Xanga xml file could not be uploaded/imported to blogspot :(... such a shame, I doubt I can ever manage to import all those blog posts in time (July 15, when Xanga will possibly be closing down) so I decided to not take chances and import them into a wordpress blog, so there they all are... all... (I didn't even count) of them... from 2004.

I'm still going to continue to update this blog though... if you wish to see my old... older and oldest posts, please visit: http://stephanieng.wordpress.com.

Cheers!

thanks for reading!

Pray for those…

While we are worrying about being late for work, getting a promotion or getting good seats at a concert or movie,or whether we can get a new toy... there are others who are suffering in hospitals waiting to be healed and others who are mourning over their lost of family members, friends and health (especially this week).

As our world is changing... we never know what will happen when we wake up tomorrow... things that we took for granted today might be lost.

I am absolutely heartbroken by the events which have happened in the past week... let's pray for those who are suffering in YaAn (雅安), Boston and Texas. And may those who are not with us any longer, Rest in Peace!

songs and feelings

I recently have realized that if there is a song which is constantly stuck in your head for some time, it can be possible that it reflects on:

1. current issues lingering (which possibly bother you)

or

2. things you are thinking about.

Over the past few weeks, lots of things have happened and I have done a coupe of experiments and discovered this...

I wasn't aware at first and I really thought I somehow fell in love with certain song genres till I got curious and searched for their lyrics only to discover they spoke exactly what I was concerned about at that moment.

How amazing are our minds to be able to use this to show us of our feelings/thoughts/situations.

Of course, there are SOME exceptions where the song itself literally sticks in your head e.g. the recent Gwiyomi - I don't want to show the Gwiyomi clips here so this is just the version with the lyrics translated into English (please Google it if you don't know what this is) ps. beware... you have been warned! XD

Flowers vs. Plants

I just had an amazing conversation with one of my good friends, somehow we ended up talking about how "guys should give girls flowers because that is sweet".

My views are: it is nice for guys to give girls flowers, however, I would appreciate it even more if guys gave girls plants instead (those plants can be flowers too... or anything long lasting) Because I believe any gift you give to your significant other is a reflection of your relationship, just giving flowers which may wither after 7 days is not very practical and only memories of that "occasion" linger for a very short time. BUT if you received a plant, not only should you take care of it (watering, feeding it, caring for it, etc) it also symbolizes your relationship with that person, your relationship must be cultivated (with time, energy, etc) AND it is much more practical (since it lasts WAY longer than ordinary stem flowers).

BESIDES, isn't it a pity when you receive flowers, not only are they expensive (I believe the latest price is $8 per stem), the social norm expects you to buy at least 12 stems (12 x 8 = 72 +taxes) and it doesn't even last long.

So I would much prefer if a guy would give me a plant (obviously a "good looking" one) instead of a dozen of roses.

I don't know... maybe I'm just a weird girl! XD... what do you think?

Brokenness might not be a bad thing

I remember attending a sermon some few months ago. The pastor asked us: what must be broken in order to be used? answer was eggs. He said like eggs, we must be broken in order to be used by God.

Do not be afraid to be broken. It might be God's plan to help you so He can use you!
