Street Performance

Street performance, or Busking (popularized in Hong Kong), can be found on the main intersections of the French Quarter in New Orleans. It was hard to get footage, so me and my travel buddy managed these two pictures.

This band is called Crawdaddy Issues. Their passion attracted a small crowd to listen to them.
Their music has an interesting hillbilly jazz genre.

Aside from them, we came across a lot of other bands. We enjoyed listening to the various types of music they produced (each was very unique).

Gumbo

If you had to choose one of the foods that most represent New Orleans, Gumbo would definitely be one of the first that comes to mind.

Gumbo is the official state cuisine of Louisiana. It is a stew that consists of strongly flavoured stock from seafood (in New Orleans, meat or shellfish in other parts of Lousiana) and the Creole "trinity": celery, onions and bell peppers.

If you are into thick soupy stewy types of dishes, I would highly recommend this dish.

Lt Governor Oscar James Dunn Artillery Park

Mississippi River

There are streetcar tracks that run along this park. I was captivated by the strong river breeze. It reminded me of Hong Kong's ocean breeze.

Christmas Tree

We visited before Mardi Gras began... this was taken down after Mardi Gras

You can see the view of St. Louis' Cathedral from here :)

It was nice getting away from the busyness of the city :)

Cafe Du Monde

Next Stop... Cafe Du Monde. Cafe Du Monde is a French Market Coffee Stand established in 1862. They are known for their Cafe Au Lait and Beignets. They only close on Christmas and are open 24 hours a day.

Their cafe au lait was one of the best I have ever had. The bitterness, milkyness were done right.

This quickly became one of my obsessions :)

Beignets. Most people translate it as French Donuts... but it undermines just how special these are. They technically aren't donuts... the texture is fluffy and the only source of sweetness is from the powdered sugar (you'd be surprised how much powdered sugar you end up using). These beignets were very tasty and it doesn't taste like anything I have had before.
